Message from the dean

It has been a busy and exciting time during my first year as dean of Creighton University’s College of Nursing. I have spent time getting reacquainted with the campus as well as thinking and planning for next steps for our college. It has been wonderful to reconnect with the Creighton community and see how the College of Nursing has grown and changed since I graduated.

We celebrated several milestones in the last year, including the 100th anniversary of Mary Lanning Healthcare and our 30-year partnership with the Hastings (Nebraska) community at our Mary Lanning Campus. We are exploring ways to strengthen our connections to the Hastings community through several initiatives, including a formal program partnership with Hastings College.

The College of Nursing has been a trendsetter and visionary for the evolving climate in health care and the field of nursing. We led the nation by launching one of the first of two accelerated BSN degree programs approximately 40 years ago. Now, they are ubiquitous! We led the state of Nebraska with the first Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree and more recently with the only Clinical Nurse Leader master’s program in the state.

As dean, I plan to encourage continued programmatic and curricular innovation to ensure our graduates are prepared for the future of health care.
I look forward to sharing with you what the future holds for the Creighton College of Nursing with these and other programs.

Hastings Nursing Alumni Ambassadors

The College of Nursing Ambassadors are alumni from the Hastings Campus who represent Creighton University in outreach activities with other alumni as well as current and prospective students. They share their Creighton experiences and serve as resources for those who want to learn more about Creighton. Ambassadors also:

  • Attend Creighton sponsored events for prospective nursing students
  • Serve on a nursing engagement committee facilitated by Mary Lanning faculty
  • Provide mentoring and shadowing opportunities to current students
  • Visit one on one with prospective students
  • Talk with students in the classroom about nursing opportunities

To be eligible to be an Ambassador, you must be a Creighton nursing alumni or a Creighton faculty or staff member. Sign up now. The time commitment is only about 5 to 15 hours per year.
