Message from the dean

Catherine ToderoThis fall semester has been one filled with many blessings for our college. In September, the University celebrated the ceremonial groundbreaking for a 180,000-square-foot health sciences campus in Phoenix. The campus, opening in fall 2021, will address growing shortages of Arizona health care professionals. Additionally, in Phoenix, we hosted the Arizona State Board of Nursing for a site visit as part of the final phase of approval for our Phoenix-based Accelerated BSN program.

Among other good news, this fall, we launched a Master of Science in Nursing Education and a post-graduate certificate in nursing education. A recent survey conducted by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing identified 1,715 faculty vacancies in 872 school. Our college is not immune and is always looking for faculty who are driven to make a difference in the lives of our students. If you or anyone you know is interested in pursuing nursing education, please contact our admissions team. And, for open faculty positions, visit our Creighton Human Resources website.

Lastly, I’m especially proud of our recent efforts around palliative care and the team of experts we are assembling. As you may already know, this summer we learned that Mandy Kirkpatrick, PhD, BSN’05, was named a Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation Scholar. The foundation seeks scholars with the potential to change health care education at the national level. Kirkpatrick’s goal is to expand and improve Creighton’s palliative care education, making it more comprehensive and applicable to distance-learning students.

I wish you and your loved ones a blessed start to the season of Advent.

Gratefully,

Catherine Todero, PhD, RN, FAAN, BSN'72

Hastings Nursing Alumni Ambassadors

The College of Nursing Ambassadors are alumni from the Hastings Campus who represent Creighton University in outreach activities with other alumni as well as current and prospective students. They share their Creighton experiences and serve as resources for those who want to learn more about Creighton. Ambassadors also:

  • Attend Creighton sponsored events for prospective nursing students
  • Serve on a nursing engagement committee facilitated by Mary Lanning faculty
  • Provide mentoring and shadowing opportunities to current students
  • Visit one on one with prospective students
  • Talk with students in the classroom about nursing opportunities

To be eligible to be an Ambassador, you must be a Creighton nursing alumni or a Creighton faculty or staff member. Sign up now. The time commitment is only about 5 to 15 hours per year.
