Message from the dean

Dean Todero’s December 2018 Greeting

The College of Nursing continues to thrive. A big story for us is our Phoenix campus. Our accelerated BSN program is up and running and I’m excited to share that our first cohort graduated in December 2018. It hardly seems possible that it has been a year since we admitted our first students on this campus. Numbers for our second cohort in August exceeded expectations with 46 enrollees and a third cohort of 48 will enter the program in January. Due to positive enrollment, we will be moving to a new location just across the parking lot from St. Joseph’s hospital that will be renovated for faculty offices and two large classrooms. We expect to be in this leased space for the next three years.

In other Phoenix news, you may have heard that Creighton announced the construction of a new $100 million health sciences campus in central Phoenix. The building will include the nursing programs, a four-year medical school, occupational and physical therapy schools, pharmacy school, physician assistant school and emergency medical services program. We will keep you updated with the progress.

In addition, we continue to grow in Hastings. Twenty-one students are set to begin in the accelerated program after the first of the year. Our partnership with Hastings College in the 3+1 initiative has been positive for both our universities. I am thankful for our faculty and staff who have worked diligently to ensure our Hastings and Phoenix students receive the great Creighton nursing education for which we are known.

None of this growth would be possible without the amazing Creighton nurses that are our alumni, faculty and students. As the Dean of Creighton Nursing, it is gratifying to see our alumni, faculty and students representing our program so well. Please continue to share your accomplishments with us. Our students benefit from hearing about your achievements.

Lastly, thank you to everyone who touches the College of Nursing. We are immeasurably grateful for your support. It is because of you that the College of Nursing continues to thrive and educate our nursing students to become leaders in the community and workforce. I wish you and your loved ones a new year filled with special memories.

Hastings Nursing Alumni Ambassadors

The College of Nursing Ambassadors are alumni from the Hastings Campus who represent Creighton University in outreach activities with other alumni as well as current and prospective students. They share their Creighton experiences and serve as resources for those who want to learn more about Creighton. Ambassadors also:

  • Attend Creighton sponsored events for prospective nursing students
  • Serve on a nursing engagement committee facilitated by Mary Lanning faculty
  • Provide mentoring and shadowing opportunities to current students
  • Visit one on one with prospective students
  • Talk with students in the classroom about nursing opportunities

To be eligible to be an Ambassador, you must be a Creighton nursing alumni or a Creighton faculty or staff member. Sign up now. The time commitment is only about 5 to 15 hours per year.
