Since its founding in 1905, the School of Dentistry has graduated more than 5,000 doctors of dental surgery and garnered an impressive list of accomplishments along the way. Alumni can be very proud of the school’s strong traditions of academic excellence and Ignatian-inspired service.

Creighton-educated dentists of diverse faith traditions bring compassion, conviction and a strong sense of ethics to the healthcare community. Faculty are strong teachers and mentors who help form dental students with a desire to make a difference in their communities.

Last year, students and faculty in the school served more than 43,000 patients through the on-campus dental clinic. In total, within the school clinics and through partnerships with One World Community Health Center, Heart Ministry Center, Charles Drew Health Center and Building Health Futures, they serve more than 11,000 people in the community.

Today, one out of every five students who applies to a dental school applies to Creighton. Our graduates perform exceedingly well on national and regional board exams. New programs, such as the Master of Science in Oral Biology that was introduced in 2010, provide interdisciplinary approaches to the study of oral health. We are building affiliations with dental education centers around the world, and we are doing more than ever in the way of innovative research. We are well on our way to becoming the premier institution for dental education in this country.

We value your partnership as we search for new ways to prepare dentists for an ever-changing healthcare environment. I thank you wholeheartedly for your loyal support of our scholarship programs, classroom technology and plans for the future. Through your involvement and generosity, you help extend Creighton’s legacy of leadership in dental education to the next generation of professionals.

Keep in touch, and please stop by and see us the next time you are on campus!

Alumni Advisory Board Chair

Message from the School of Dentistry
Alumni Advisory Board Chair, David J. Millea, DDS’77

As current chair of the Creighton University School of Dentistry Alumni Advisory Board, I am excited to lead this group of dedicated dental alumni during this exciting time as this upcoming July will mark the completion of nearly 24 months of construction on the state-of-the-art, 200,000 square foot dental building.  The formal dedication of this magnificent structure will take place on Saturday, September 15, 2018.

This new footprint will not only enhance an already stellar dental educational environment, but will also allow the community to increase the impressive $1.3 million the Creighton School of Dentistry and its partners provide to organizations such as: Building Healthy Futures, Give Kids a Smile, OneWorld Clinic, Charles Drew Clinic, and the Institute for Latin American Concern (ILAC) to name only a few.  These services, rooted deep in the Jesuit tradition, include free clinics, preventive care education, and pediatric dental care.

Besides the natural excitement that coincides with unveiling the new building, we as an advisory board continue to enhance our efforts to connect alumni and students together during each of the four years they are on campus; whether providing an insulated lunch bag and welcome letter their first year, paying for the embroidery and blood pressure cuffs for the D2 students, hosting a panel discussion and networking event for the D3 students, and finally, celebrating with the D4 students during an alumni board - sponsored certificate luncheon.

Yes indeed, this year is full of excitement!  I hope that you can join me later in the fall as we collectively welcome a new chapter in the storied history of Creighton University’s School of Dentistry.

Go Jays!

Sincerely,
David J. Millea, DDS’77
