Winter
A lifesaving Creighton connection

New indoor golf facility
Creighton celebrated the unveiling of the McGraw Family Indoor Golf Facility, a nearly 4,000-square-foot performance center designed to foster student-athlete development and set the stage for the future success of the Bluejay men's and women's golf programs. Check out the golf facility story.
Spring
Creighton announces the Quad
Near 22nd and Burt Streets, just across the Mall from the Ahmanson Law Center, will soon be a new campus park. It’s 5.7 acres of natural grass that will include an amphitheater, pavilion, stage, a fountain plaza, and an ellipse with an art installation. View renderings of The Quad.
A record gift for scholarships
The estates of alumnus Dr. Elno Zikmund, BS’41, and his wife, Tillie Zikmund, invested more than $10 million in the Elno T. and Mathilda M. Zikmund Endowed Scholarship, which the couple created in 2010. It’s one of the largest gifts ever made to support unrestricted scholarships, which assist students from all schools and colleges. Alan Huss returns
Creighton announced that Alan Huss, BSBA’02, would take over the Bluejay men’s basketball program once Greg McDermott retired. No timeline was set for the change. But Huss left High Point, where he’d achieved historic success, to return home and secure the future of the program. Read more about Huss' return to Creighton.
Her sweaters are in Oprah’s closet
Creighton alumna Rachelle Hruska MacPherson picked up one of her mother-in-law’s old sweaters, etched the word “booyah” on the front and posted a picture of it on Instagram. Now, celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Meryl Streep are wearing her designs. Check out these sweaters!
First full class of Phoenix grads
The Creighton University Health Sciences Campus – Phoenix, which opened in 2021, celebrated the graduation of its first class of four-year medical students and hosted its first pharmacy and physical therapy commencement ceremonies. Read about the new era in Phoenix.
Summer
Baseball team reaches NCAA regional
For the first time in six years, Creighton’s baseball team earned a spot in the NCAA tournament. The Bluejays also won both the BIG EAST regular season and tournament championships in longtime coach Ed Servais’ final year. Revisit these accomplishments.
A Creighton couple’s crash landing
One of our most popular stories in 2025 detailed the incredible experiences of two alumni surviving in the Brazilian jungle after their plane crashed-landed. The ordeal was, they later said, a gift from God. Check out their adventure!
New fields for baseball and softball
Creighton broke ground on a new baseball practice field and a softball competition field. In addition to being the home base for Creighton baseball practice, the all-turf practice field will serve as the principal location for teams preparing to compete in the NCAA Men’s College World Series. The softball field — Creighton’s new home stadium — will also be used by CWS teams, as well as students and community groups. Read about the groundbreaking.
Fall
The record-breaking Class of 2029
In the fall, more first-year students stepped foot on campus than ever before. Creighton enrolled approximately 1,250 freshmen. It’s a school record. The largest class in Creighton history.
Fly Together announced
The nearly $300 million donor-funded initiative will reshape a 12-block recreational and athletic corridor on the east side of campus for students, student-athletes, faculty, staff, friends and fans, while strengthening the University’s ties to Omaha. Fly Together launched with a $100 million lead gift from the Heider Family Foundation — the largest gift in Creighton’s history. Read about this athletic endeavor.
A second consecutive Elite Eight run
Creighton’s volleyball team delivered another memorable December. One year after breaking through to the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight, the Bluejays did it again. In coach Brian Rosen’s first season, Creighton won three thrilling postseason games to affirm its standing among the elite. Check out the volleyball team's success!
