The connection that Creighton parents Janet, BA’89, and Brian Mark, have with Creighton University runs deep. Family ties to Omaha, a history of graduates, and their involvement with the University shape their commitment to giving back. Their son, Justin (JJ), is a 2022 graduate, and their daughter, Liz, is currently a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences. As members of the Parent and Family Leadership Council (PFLC), the Marks help cultivate an environment at Creighton that fosters the holistic growth of every student.

Meet Janet and Brian

What is your favorite thing about being a Creighton parent?

It's fun. It's really fun. Liz is a sophomore, so you’re not getting rid of us yet. We will be around, we will come and cheer on the Bluejays at basketball, volleyball, and other sports events, and obviously spend time with Liz. We are very excited for the next couple of years, and we will continue to financially support Creighton. We've become part of the community, and I don't think you ever leave that.

What motivates you to support the University?

Our kids get a phenomenal experience here. It's made them better people. We want to help others get those experiences because we believe in the mission and the kind of individual that Creighton helps develop.  We all want a better world, right? That’s the ultimate goal. And I believe that Creighton students can do that.

Why is it important to you to stay engaged with Creighton?

We have a long history of Creighton graduates in my family, and we have a long history of supporting Creighton both financially and through activities.

We have always been involved with the kids at school and at Creighton, it was a natural step. I think it's vitally important to teach your children how to be engaged: this is what you do when you graduate. You become an adult. You stay engaged in the community and with the things you value, the things you want to be a success.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

From a parent standpoint, it's easy to have students here knowing that they are cared for and that they are receiving a top-notch academic opportunity.  JJ and Liz are well-rounded. They're better versions of themselves because of Creighton’s emphasis on the whole person. It's never easy to leave your children when you're dropping them off. But I never had a hesitation that this wasn't where they were supposed to be.
