Construction continues to progress on a premier stadium for Creighton’s softball team, signifying a new era for a storied program on the rise. The Bluejays’ state-of-the-art home ballpark will be ready for action this fall.

The softball stadium, a 79,000-square foot complex, will provide a first-class experience for Creighton softball student-athletes, enhance the gameday atmosphere for the Bluejay program and its fans, and offer expanded recreational opportunities for students and the community.

Located near 20th and Cuming Streets, the softball competition field will be positioned directly west of Creighton’s new baseball practice field, which is scheduled to be completed in 2026.

The two ballfields are funded by a $30 million grant from the State of Nebraska’s Shovel-Ready Capital Recovery and Investment Act Program and a $2 million gift from College World Series of Omaha, Inc. The contributions will cover the construction of the new fields, parking lots, roads and the demolition of Creighton Sports Complex, where the softball team had played its home games since 1988. The University plans to build a new, 5.7-acre quadrangle in place of the existing softball and baseball fields and facilities, directly west of the Harper Center.

“This magnificent new stadium represents a historic investment in our program and a renewed commitment to Creighton students and the Omaha community,” said Bluejay softball coach Krista Wood. “Our institution continues to provide every necessary resource to ensure our student-athletes become the very best versions of themselves, and we could not be more excited to take the field at this new facility for the first time this fall.”

The new stadium will feature a pristine all-turf playing surface, a 30-foot-tall digital video board and a versatile LED lighting system. The home and visiting dugouts will be modernized and expanded — they’ll each include restrooms for student-athletes and additional storage space. The new field will have multiple bullpens (the CU Sports Complex had just one).

The venue is being designed to enhance the fan experience with 299 fixed seats and the capability to expand to accommodate more than 1,000 spectators. Restrooms and concession spaces will be located near the stadium entrance and the facility will meet all ADA accessibility standards.

“The new stadium will elevate our softball program at the perfect time," said Marcus Blossom, the University’s McCormick Endowed Athletic Director. “It’s a monumental upgrade for student-athletes, our Bluejay fans and the entire Omaha community.”

The stadium’s scheduled opening this fall coincides with increased momentum and promise for Creighton’s softball program, which originated as the University’s first organized intercollegiate women’s sport in 1973 and has since made two College World Series appearances and tallied nine regular-season conference titles.

In 2025, the Bluejays eclipsed the 30-win mark in back-to-back seasons for the first time in 15 years. They’ve reached the BIG EAST Tournament title game two seasons in a row, and they finished the 2025 campaign with one of the most prolific offenses in program history, setting a single-season record for runs scored (321). Creighton has produced a 27-13 record in home games the last two years.

“We are putting ourselves in the best position possible to compete at the highest level — we want to win BIG EAST championships and contend with the nation’s elite programs,” said Wood, who was hired as the team’s head coach in 2022. “This incredible stadium unquestionably will help us reach our goals.”

Creighton’s fall schedule includes practices and exhibition action. The Bluejays will officially make their debut in their new home during the 2026 spring season.
