Women of Creighton: An Evening with Eileen

Ashland, NE

Please join us for an Evening with Eileen Wirth, PhD, professor emeritus of Creighton's Department of Computer Science, Design and Journalism (previously Journalism, Media and Computing).

At the reception, part of our “Women of Creighton” series, the longtime Creighton mentor will read from and sign copies of her new book, The Women Who Built Omaha.

Wirth was inspired to write the book after doing a quick check of the indexes in two Omaha histories written a century apart. In both, she found only a small percentage of women’s names.

“Women were barely mentioned in our local history,” Wirth said. “The reason is the histories focused mostly on politics and business. They left out education, health care, human services and culture. With this book, I wanted to write the chapters absent in our city’s history. In the process, I learned about some amazing women.”

We hope you’ll join us at the Creighton alumna-owned business Postscript in Ashland, where you can jumpstart the season with some holiday shopping and celebrate Dr. Wirth and the amazing community she’s helped to build.
