2007 Alumni Merit Award Recipient
Timothy J. Sully, BA’85
May 11, 2007
People have described Tim Sully as a man of compassion – and a man of strong character, built on virtues such as friendship, prudence, an eye for the needy, and a generosity of spirit. As a result of his Creighton education, he became a man for others with a strong commitment to Ignatian values and a vibrant sense of cura personalis.
His formative years were spent on a farm in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, where he learned unshakeable devotion to family and faith. He arrived at Creighton with a passion for learning and a zeal for making a difference in the world. Graduating in 1985 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in English and Theology, Tim embarked on professional experiences that matured his commitment to humanity. Eventually he returned to Creighton where he served as a graduate assistant, resident director, and assistant director of Residence Life, as well as a coordinator of summer programs for the Institute for Latin American Concern (ILAC). Tim also was active in numerous committees and work groups including the President’s Staff Advisory Council. Today, Tim serves as the Director of Development for the Siena/Francis House, a homeless shelter, fulfilling his dream to serve people in need within the Omaha community.
As a recipient of Creighton’s Saint Ignatius Award, Tim's impact on student life was profound in its personification of the Creighton credo. All who knew him saw a man of great balance and generosity whose integrity and sensitivity remain extraordinary. In tribute, Residence Life has initiated the annual “Tim J. Sully Award,” given to a faculty or staff member who demonstrates exemplary performance and service.
For his enduring commitment to others in the pursuit of justice, Creighton University is proud to confer upon her son, Timothy J. Sully, the 2007 Alumni Merit Award for the College of Arts and Sciences.
