2001 Alumni Merit Award Recipient

Gomer V. Taylor, BS PHA’85

October 5, 2001

Gomer V. Taylor earned his bachelor of science in pharmacy degree at Creighton in 1985. Since then, service to his profession has earned him a reputation as one of Nebraska’s outstanding pharmacy leaders.

Taylor began his career as a staff pharmacist in Council Bluffs.  In just a few years, he was named pharmacy manager of a Walgreens store.  Three years later, he was promoted to District Pharmacy Supervisor for Omaha Walgreens, a position he has held since 1991.

During these years, Taylor has gone the distance for his profession.  He has spent countless hours, many of them on the road between Omaha and Lincoln, serving the Nebraska Retail Pharmacy Council, the Nebraska Pharmacists Association and the Department of Health and Human Services.

Taylor served on the Task Force which rewrote the rules, regulations and statutes for the practice of pharmacy in Nebraska.  A colleague who worked with Taylor remarked that Taylor’s insightful, straightforward and visionary leadership resulted in vital contributions to the practice, including the passage of Legislative Bill 398, which was a five-year effort. Taylor also provided key assistance to the Legislation Task Force concerning pharmacy technicians.

At Creighton, Taylor serves on the School’s Industrial Advisory Board, which is comprised of healthcare leaders from across the nation. Taylor also is a member of the University’s Non-Traditional Doctor of Pharmacy Steering Committee.

Committed to helping his community, Taylor serves on the Colo-rectal Cancer Detection Task Force for the American Cancer Society.  He is a board member of the American Diabetes Association. Many students, pharmacists and other healthcare professional have benefited from his mentoring.

For outstanding service to his profession, community and alma mater, it is with pride that Creighton University bestows upon Mr. Gomer V. Taylor the 2001 Alumni Merit Award for the School of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions.
