Dean's Message
Greetings! Creighton University is on the cusp of an exciting year and a new beginning in its history with the arrival of Creighton’s 24th president, Timothy Lannon, S.J. The School of Nursing was well-represented during Fr. Lannon’s inauguration ceremony, as alumni, students, faculty and staff participated in the procession and other activities.
 
The School welcomed three new full-time faculty members this fall. Joely Goodman will teach maternal-child. Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Kristine Gauthier and Margo Minnich will both teach in community and public health nursing. Read more
 
Nebraska is among the 21 state-based collaborations named Action Coalitions by the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action. The initiative is coordinated through the Center to Champion Nursing in America, which is sponsored by AARP, the AARP Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The work of the Nebraska Action Coalition (NAC) will assist in advancing the recommendations in the Institute of Medicine’s report on the Future of Nursing.

Dr. Linda Lazure, associate dean for external affairs, and Creighton alumna Marilyn Valerio, dean and professor of nursing at Nebraska Methodist College, are both members of the NAC’s Executive Committee and are serving as legislative consultants to the Advancing Nursing Practice Statewide Team. The faculty and students of the School of Nursing look forward to advancing the recommendations through initiatives in our curricula, and in collaboration with the NAC and others.

Nursing reunion event
More than 300 nursing alumni and students attended the School of Nursing's continuing education event, "Leading Change, Advancing Health," held during Creighton's Reunion Weekend. In response to the Institute of Medicine's report on the Future of Nursing, the program featured Creighton alumni, faculty and doctoral students, and addressed how nurses in leadership and practice positions are using evidence, knowledge and information to influence change.

Berger honored
Ann Malone Berger, BSN'71, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, received the School of Nursing's highest alumni award at an event in her honor on Sept. 22. Learn more about Berger's accomplishments here.

Boning up on bones
Joan Lappe, Ph.D., R.N., who holds The Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss and Drs. Gilbert and Clinton Beirne Endowed Chair in Nursing, was recently featured on the popular website Everyday Health on keeping your bones healthy.

Creighton will receive $80,000 to support students traditionally underrepresented in the Baccalaureate Accelerated Nursing Program, a track specifically designed for students already holding college degrees in other fields.
