Workshop on "Service-Learning and Service Projects," Nov. 5, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Metropolitan Community College, Fort Omaha Campus, 5300 N. 30th St.

conference set for Nov. 5
Metropolitan Community College, recipient of an American Association of Community College (AACC) grant, will host a one-day workshop on service-learning on Nov. 5. The day's events will include: a presentation by Jacquie Lonning; luncheon panel on immigration issues featuring local experts; "best practices" roundtable sessions; and a focused discussion on service days, such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day (a scene from last year's celebration at Creighton is pictured above). Download the tentative schedule as a Word document. A $25 fee covers the cost of the light breakfast, lunch and snacks. Limited financial support is available through the AEA for interested parties with demonstrated financial need. Please e-mail Michele King, mking@creighton.edu, for details.

Midwest Consortium Conference Report
Voyager honoree
Congratulations to Donna Pawlowski, Ph.D., associate professor of communication studies, who was the recipient of this year's Voyager Award at the Midwest Consortium for Service-Learning in Higher Education Annual Conference, Oct. 1 and 2 in Crete, Neb. She was presented the award in recognition of her many contributions to service-learning in the classroom, on campus, in the community and for the consortium.
Creighton presenters
Congratulations also to the following Creighton presenters at the conference: Joy Doll and Kathy Flecky, Occupational Therapy; Gary Michels and Mallory McGinnis, Chemistry; Donna Pawlowski, Communication Studies; Kelly Gould, Dentistry; and Ana Heck and Becca Harvey, student coordinators, Center for Service and Justice. Creighton's "great work" was commented on by many conference attendees.

Nebraska Children's Home Society Seeks Partner
The Nebraska Children's Home Society is seeking to partner with a Creighton program in order to provide tutoring for pregnant and parenting teens who are working to earn high school diplomas or GEDs.
