united way seeking volunteers
The United Way of the Midlands is looking for Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) team leaders to serve as on-site supervisors and role models for youth volunteers on community service projects through local non-profit agencies.

Qualifications needed include: high school graduate, prior volunteer experience, and ability to relate to youth ages 11-18. Responsibilities include: leading team meetings, fostering teamwork among youth volunteers, liaison between United Way program director and service agency, guide ongoing reflection activities and complete team leader project and program evaluations.

Creighton accounting students, members of Beta Alpha Psi (the accounting honor society) and law students in the Business Law Society provide Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) services to low-income Native American clients at the Winnebago Reservation in northeast Nebraska.

Since 2001, Creighton's Health Sciences Library has managed the National Network of Libraries of Medicine MidContinental Region's Community Outreach Project, which focuses on increasing access to health information to reduce health disparities in a six-state region.

The advance registration deadline is March 14 for the 22nd Annual National Service-Learning Conference, April 6-9, in Atlanta, Ga. This event is the largest gathering of youth and practitioners involved in service-learning, attracting attendees nationally and globally.
