As senior faculty associate of Creighton University's Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) program, I encourage you to participate in the upcoming CASTL Institute, to be held again at Creighton.

castl 2011: call for scholars
The 2011 Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) Institute will be held at Creighton June 1-4. The theme of this year's event is Transformational Learning: Engaging Education in a Global World.

The deadline for proposals from scholars has been extended to Monday, Feb. 14. No more than 28 proposals will be accepted for mentoring/presentation, but all forms of SoTL research and disciplinary foci are welcome. Scholars' proposals need not address the institute theme; rather, they must answer five questions regarding their SoTL project. Find complete application details here.

upcoming awards, workshops
seeking scholarly articles
Magna Publications and The Teaching Professor will recognize an exemplary scholarly article on teaching and learning at the 2011 Teaching Professor Conference, May 20-22, in Atlanta, Ga. The award includes a $1,000 stipend. The submission deadline is Feb. 14.  Articles should be submitted through Creighton's Office of Academic Excellence and Assessment (AEA). Luncheon series
This spring, the AEA office is offering a rich and varied assortment of workshops for faculty who are interested in SoTL (from beginners to veterans). Courses will focus on four areas: Problem-Based Learning in Your Classroom, Distance Education, Reflective Practice, and Generational Learning Styles. Register online or e-mail Michelle Pope.
