Haiti Relief

Creighton Teams Provide Medical Care
Several teams of Creighton health professionals have traveled to the Dominican Republic to provide lifesaving care to those suffering in the wake of the tragic earthquake in Haiti. "The need is overwhelming with thousands of people seeking help," said Creighton surgeon Charles Filipi, M.D. You can read more about Creighton's effort in this Omaha-World Herald story or on Creighton's News Center, including a dramatic airlift. ILAC Needs Your Support
The University's special connection to the Institute for Latin American Concern (ILAC), located in the Dominican Republic, where students and faculty conduct a number of annual service trips, allowed Creighton to mobilize quickly in responding to this tragedy. What Catholic Feast was Celebrated this Week?
On Feb. 2, the Catholic Church celebrated the feast of The Presentation of the Lord, which has been combined with the feast of the Purification of Mary. Professor Named Heartland Hero
William Marcil, BS'83, MD'87, associate professor of psychiatry at Creighton University School of Medicine, has earned a 2010 Hero of the Heartland award from the American Red Cross Heartland Chapter. Read more.

Baltic Studies Journal Gets Creighton Editor
Political science professor Terry Clark, Ph.D., has been appointed editor of the Journal of Baltic Studies, an international, multidisciplinary journal dedicated to advancing knowledge about all aspects of the Baltic Sea Region's political, social, economic and cultural life. Read more.

Creighton Honors Local Priest
The Rev. James Keiter, pastor and president at Assumption-Guadalupe parish and grade school, and president of Saint Peter Claver Cristo Rey High School, received Creighton's Archbishop Daniel E. Sheehan award on Feb. 3, during Creighton's Priests and Brothers Annual Dinner and Basketball Game. Read more.

Isabelle Schindler Cherney, Ph.D., BA'96, a Nebraska Professor of the Year, was featured in the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities' online publication, Connections, for her work as director of Creighton's Honors Program.

Cindy Corritore, Ph.D., an associate professor of information systems and technology at Creighton, is cited in this
Omaha World-Herald story on Apple's new tablet computer, the iPad.


Bluejay Athletics

Softball Swings at MVC History
Creighton softball will take aim at Missouri Valley Conference history this spring when it attempts to become the first program to win four straight regular-season conference championships. The three-time defending champions have been tabbed preseason favorites as voted on by league coaches. In addition, All-American pitcher Tara Oltman has been named to the preseason "watch list" for the Ninth Annual USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year Award. Read more.

Baseball Team Picked Third
Creighton's baseball team was picked to finish third in the Missouri Valley Conference in a preseason poll of the league's coaches. Three Bluejays were named preseason All-Valley picks: Elliot Soto (SS), Robbie Knight (OF) and Bobby Lackovic (RP). Read more.

Two Bluejays Taken in MLS SuperDraft
Former Creighton men's soccer players  Chris Schuler and Seth Sinovic (pictured from left with Coach Bob Warming) were selected in the 2010 Major Leage Soccer SuperDraft, extending Creighton's impressive streak of being the only college program in the country to have at least one player selected in every draft since the league's inception in 1996. Soccer Teams Net Academic Honor
Creighton is one of 98 schools (all levels) to have both its men's and women's teams earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award for posting a team GPA of at least 3.0. Read more.
